Canadian politicians and diplomats have been telling interviewers that they are astonished at how little U.S. politicians seem to be aware of the staggeringly huge interconnection of the two nations' economies, and of the equally dreadful implications for both countries of the proposed U.S. across-the-board 25% tariff on all imports from Canada. The best-informed (and thus most alarmed) U.S. leaders are apparently those in 17 States who directly rely upon Canadian heavy crude oil, automobiles & products, strategic and common minerals, lumber, and hydroelectricity. I believe that my tone of impending economic pain in this comment is reflective of how Canadians seem to be preparing.

The EU have a policy of targeting specific US politicians' constituencies, with their retaliatory tariffs. I expect the Canadians will take a leaf out of their book. Should be fun to see who they decide to hit.

That's what happened last time around with Trump.

Trudeau needs to call an election now. His government doesn't have the support to take any action. Him and his Liberals are finished, and it's totally inappropriate for them to negotiate this issue.

Trudeau is the currently elected Prime Minister, and it appears that Singh and many other Canadian Federal MPs and provincial leaders are aligned.

There is an upcoming leadership race, and then an election. Calling an election now, presumably with Trump tariff orders coming out tomorrow would lock Canadians into an election with a caretaker government that would be unable to pass any meaningful legislation. It would be monumentally stupid and your comment makes it clear you have little to no understanding of our government.
